Next we have to laminate the material for the main and rear spars. Due to the very thin airfoil it is impossible to carry the full thickness of the spar all the way to the tip. For that reason the spars are laminated with the inside lamination being shorter than the outside. This is readily visible in the picture of the main spars above.

NOTE: There will be a third lamination of 1/16" soft balsa added to the main spars to allow them to be shaped to match the airfoil prior to sheeting. It is not necessary to add those laminations at this time.

The main spars are laminated from two pieces of 1/8" x 1/2" hardwood, spruce works great. The inner lamination stops at R9 while the outer lamination carries on through to R12.

The rear spars are laminated from two pieces of 1/16" balsa cut to the proper taper. (See plan) Once again the inner lamination stops at R9 while the outer one carries to R12.

Add ribs R6 through R11 and the main and rear spars to the wing assembly.
